Soldered steel bottle caps with heat patina, Swarovski sustainable pearls and crystals, fishing wire
My project reflects the vast amount of discarded waste we, as humans, produce that inevitably ends up in the ocean. What’s more, a surprising amount of this waste is actually abandoned fishing equipment. I also focused on pearls as my main inspiration for this project as there is a lot of controversy around how they are farmed and produced. So I have presented this idea through my chosen materials: old bottle caps, fishing wire, Swarovski sustainable pearls and crystals. The bottle caps embody clams and mussels that encase a singular pearl, entwined by fishing wire that is adorned with various crystals that are reminiscent of the sea.
