Design Mock-Up
This was a project in collaboration with Louis Vuitton, as part of my university course. My collection takes inspiration from my Welsh heritage and its ties to slate mining. The collection consists of a necklace, a pair of earrings and a bracelet. Each piece tells a story of slate; it reflects the different states of refinement that the slate goes through in the process of mining to production. I chose the jewellery placements with the intention of using the body to convey the story, a journey from the earrings to the bracelet. Each piece of slate is backed with a precious metal that corresponds to the various differing colours and tones that slate possesses, as well as using a handmade gold chain and black sheep’s wool twine that adorn the pieces. I wanted each piece to have the same organic, jagged edge that you see in the natural formation of slate, hence why the pieces are irregular and not totally uniform in size.
